    Jeffrey L. Marks

    Biography

    Jeff, a former law clerk in the Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, is a member of the firm’s Virginia Beach office where his practice focuses on complex commercial disputes, with particular experience in creditors’ rights and bankruptcy matters. He represents all types of creditors, lenders, vendors and other claimants in bankruptcy, commercial litigation and creditors’ rights matters. In addition to appearing on behalf of the firm’s clients at all levels of the state and federal courts, he provides representation to creditors, debtors and trustees in all types of bankruptcy cases across the country. He handles all types of commercial and bankruptcy litigation and negotiates settlements and workouts on behalf of lenders, borrowers and creditors.

    Prior to law school, Jeff was licensed Certified Public Accountant with the international accounting firm BDO. Jeff practiced in the audit and tax areas. Jeff has been named to Virginia Business Magazine’s Legal Elite, Virginia Super Lawyers, and top lawyers for Coastal Virginia Magazine. Jeff is a Past-President of the Virginia Beach Bar Association and the Tidewater Bankruptcy Bar and a former board member of the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for TowneBank (City of Virginia Beach) and the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival, and he is the current president of the Cox High School Girls Lacrosse Team. He is a former chairman of the Wetlands Board for the City of Virginia Beach and the 2nd District Disciplinary Committee for the Virginia State Bar. Jeff was a member of the AICPA and Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.

    Representative Matters

    • Represented lenders and creditors in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Western District of Virginia, Eastern and Western Districts of North Carolina, and District of Maryland
    • Tried cases in state courts across the Commonwealth of Virginia involving commercial litigation, creditors’ rights, and general litigation matters
    • Analyzed and litigated cases involving title, land-use, and other real estate issues in state courts across the Commonwealth of Virginia
    • Acted as counsel to chapter 11 and 7 bankruptcy trustees
    • Served as local counsel for litigation matters in the United States District Court for the Eastern District and Western District of Virginia
    • Pursued claims on behalf of Fortune 50 asset-based lending institution against borrowers in the automotive, marine, and consumer goods industries
    • Represented several automotive finance companies and other lenders
    • Pursued settlements and work-outs in cases involving loans and commercial disputes
    • Represented commercial landlords and shopping centers in unlawful detainers actions against tenants
