Biography

Sarah is of counsel in the firm’s Virginia Beach office and a member of the Family Law Practice Group. Ms. Buitrago’s practice focuses on an array of family law matters, including dissolution of marriage, custody and support, as well as paternity, grandparent’s rights, adoption, drafting pre- and post-marital agreements, post-divorce litigation and protective orders. She is a qualified Guardian ad Litem for children.  She also represents psychiatric patients in involuntary commitment hearings at the Virginia Beach Psychiatric Hospital or Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Representative Matters

  • Represents service members or their spouse requiring knowledge of the division of active duty and reserve military pensions, the survivor benefit plan, and the interplay between Federal and Virginia law concerning the same
  • Prepares and reviews prenuptial agreements to protect assets owned prior to marriage
  • Represents parties in contested custody and visitation of children, including cases that involve relocation of the custodial parent
  • Represents individuals that are petitioning for adoption of a minor or adult child, including step-parent adoptions
  • Represents patients that are involuntarily committed in the Virginia Beach Psychiatric Hospital or Virginia Beach General Hospital
