    3 Kaufman & Canoles Partners Selected As Fellows of the Virginia Law Foundation

    January 2012—Kaufman & Canoles is pleased to announce that Robert C. Goodman Jr ., Elizabeth G. Hester, and Lewis W. Webb III have been selected by the Virginia Law Foundation to its Fellows Class of 2012. This honor is conferred on Virginia lawyers of integrity and character who are outstanding in their profession and their communities.

    Mr. Goodman is a partner at Kaufman & Canoles. His practice focuses on commercial transactions including mergers and acquisitions, sales of businesses, commercial and land leases, formation of business entities, major system procurements, and split-up of family businesses. In addition to his commercial work, he works closely with families and family businesses in generational and estate tax planning, other tax issues, family dynamics, and charitable objectives. Active in the community, Mr. Goodman provides guidance to numerous nonprofit and civic organizations. He is a member of the Executive Committee for Virginia Beach Vision, the Development Committee of EVMS, and is a Trustee of the EVMS Foundation. Mr. Goodman received his A.B. from Dartmouth College and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.

    Ms. Hester is a partner in the Commercial Section at Kaufman & Canoles. Her corporate practice includes mergers and acquisitions and assisting clients in the formation of limited partnerships and limited liability companies, and general contract and corporate matters. Ms. Hester received her B.S. and M.B.A. from Oklahoma University and her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.

    Mr. Webb is Chair of the firm’s Tax Section and Private Client Services Group. He represents high net worth families and owners of closely-held businesses in all areas of their estate planning. His practice also includes charitable giving matters, community and private foundations, and transmission of family values to the next generation. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. His civic involvement includes service on the United Way, CHKD and ODU Educational Foundations, as well as several private foundations. He is also Chair of the Endowment Committees of the Chrysler Museum and the Virginia Aquarium and the Distribution Committee of the Business Consortium for Arts Support.
