Robert J. Barry Named Recipient of the University of Virginia’s Raven Society Award
Kaufman & Canoles is pleased to announce that Robert J. Barry is the recipient of the University of Virginia’s 2013 Raven Society Award. The Raven Society Award recognizes excellence in service and contribution to the University of Virginia along with genuine contribution to the recipient’s community. Each year, the Raven Society confers the award to honor a student, faculty member, administrator or alumnus of UVA who has widely and sympathetically shared, supported, and advanced the function of the institution.
UVA President, Teresa Sullivan wrote Mr. Barry stating, “The Award is one of the highest honors bestowed on alumni, and it is especially fitting that you are a part of this distinguished group.”
Mr. Barry has raised funds for the UVA Law School Foundation for the past 35 years. Mr. Barry assists the Foundation by annually sending letters and personally phoning members to solicit contributions to the Law School Foundation’s annual fund. Mr. Barry is a life member of the Alumni Association and has been a member of the Virginia Athletics Foundation and donor to UVA since graduation. Mr. Barry’s enthusiasm has made him a well-known unofficial ambassador for UVA in Hampton Roads.
Mr. Barry is a partner in the Labor and Employment Law Practice Group of Kaufman & Canoles. His practice concentrates on employment law litigation, day-to-day advice, and long-term strategies for employers in both the public and private sectors. Active in the community, Mr. Barry has been a college and high school sports official for over 40 years, statewide Chairman of the Virginia Bar Association Labor and Employment Section, member of the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association, and past event Chair for the American Heart Association and Bon Secours DePaul Health Foundation.
