Name, Image, and Likeness Deals: The New Frontier in College Athletics

Webinar
Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Circle Arrow Event Details

Last summer, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled that college athletes can get paid for appearances, advertisements, and other uses of their names and images. Since then, the NCAA and state legislatures are implementing rules and laws to regulate name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals for athletes. Given all of these developments, current and prospective college athletes need to consider their potential for NIL earnings. During this complimentary webinar, we took a closer look at NIL deals in general—What are they? How do they work? What are the tax implications? We also discussed current laws, including the new NIL statute going into effect in Virginia on July 1, 2022, and what North Carolina is doing on the NIL front, as well as how some local universities in the region are currently addressing NIL issues for their athletes.
