December 2025 – Kaufman & Canoles, P.C. is pleased to announce that Daniel C. Yates has joined the firm’s Newport News office as Of Counsel in the Litigation practice group.
Prior to joining Kaufman & Canoles, Mr. Yates served as the Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Newport News for over four years. In addition, he previously practiced law at Venable LLP in Washington, DC, and McGuire Woods LLP, in Richmond, and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at the William & Mary Law School. He received his B.A., magna cum laude, at the College of William & Mary and his J.D., magna cum laude, from William & Mary Law School.
Kaufman & Canoles’ Litigation practice group trial experience is vast, with an impressive record of success in many trials of extreme complexity before juries and judges, in both federal and state courts. The team is skilled at all forms of alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration and mediation, and frequently counsel clients on how best to avoid litigation.
