James Shoemaker of Patten, Wornom, Hatten & Diamonstein is a leading lawyer on the Peninsula who regularly sues employers on behalf of his employee clients. So, when he addresses attendees of the final showing of the 34th Annual Employment Law Update at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, his perspective on how he chooses employers to sue should be helpful to employers who want to keep from being sued. Mr. Shoemaker will not only let attendees know how to avoid being sued by lawyers like him, but he will participate in a workshop on how to safely discipline and discharge employees following his luncheon presentation.

Mr. Shoemaker will not be the only highlight of the July 19th final showing of the 34th Annual Employment Law Update. A number of representatives from relevant state and federal employment law agencies like the EEOC will also be on hand to help the K&C Employment Team present a number of topics, including Handling Unemployment Claims; How to Effectively Document Employment Actions; How to Deal with the Toxic Employee; Problem Absenteeism and a Workplace Harassment Update. Also, the ever-popular K&C Answer Booth will help provide answers to all employment related questions attendees may have.

FYI

The 34th Annual Employment Law Update is intended to provide employers and HR professionals with the latest legal updates along with practical ways to avoid legal claims. Entertaining videos will be presented in keeping with an Office Party theme to help employers see what they should avoid doing in the workplace to reduce liability. Attendees can also earn up to 6 credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) and 5 PDCs toward the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP. In addition, one lucky attendee will win a $350 gift card to be used toward an office party at one of the Peninsulas hottest party venues, Tradition Brewing.
