Kaufman & Canoles is pleased to announce that Laura Dickson Rixey, Lisa Hudson Kim, and Douglas M. Foley have been named practice group leaders.
Ms. Rixey has been named Co-Chair of the Health Care practice group and is a Member in the firm’s Virginia Beach office. As part of her health care law practice, she regularly advises physicians, practices, hospitals, and long-term care providers on commercial, contractual, and regulatory matters.
Ms. Kim has been named Chair of the Consumer Finance practice group. She is an experienced commercial litigator with over 25 years of practice in state and federal courts in Virginia and North Carolina. Based in Virginia Beach, Ms. Kim’s practice focuses on representing lenders, collectors, creditors, landlords, and homeowners’ association boards.
Mr. Foley has been named Chair of the Bankruptcy, Creditors’ Rights, & Business Restructuring practice group. He represents creditors and debtors in Chapter 11 proceedings across the country, handling cases for both large corporations and smaller businesses.

The team regularly advises clients on fair lending, UDAAP, and regulatory and compliance matters involving the CFPB, FTC, DOJ, and federal and state agencies.
The Bankruptcy, Creditors’ Rights, & Business Restructuring practice group’s full-service team works on various creditor issues both inside and outside of bankruptcy, including workouts, receiverships, foreclosures, relief from stay, defending preference, fraudulent conveyance and other claims against creditors and lenders, contested proceedings, including the use of cash collateral, and contested plan confirmation matters.
