June 2017 - Kaufman & Canoles has been chosen as the exclusive Virginia law firm for TerraLex, the leading international legal network comprised of 155+ independent member firms, with more than 19,000 attorneys in 100 countries.

Kaufman & Canoles business law practice is the largest headquartered in Southeastern Virginia. With offices in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Newport News, Chesapeake, Hampton, Williamsburg, Richmond and Tysons Corner, the Firm's nearly 100 attorneys serve international, national and regional clients in a broad range of legal specialties.

This prestigious connection gives our clients global access yet retains our local focus, said Kaufman & Canoles Chairman William R. Van Buren III. Clients will have immediate and seamless access to high-quality lawyers worldwide. We are honored to be included in this network and feel strongly this affiliation benefits our clients in addition to international clients wishing to do business in Virginia.

Van Buren and Jason R. Davis, executive committee member with Kaufman & Canoles, will oversee the TerraLex business relations. The network has immediately provided one referral to Kaufman & Canoles on a significant bankruptcy matter, and the Firm has referred 16 matters to other U.S. and international firms including ones in India, Nicaragua, and Italy.

Kaufman & Canoles was created January 1, 1982, through the merger of two respected Norfolk firms, Kaufman & Oberndorfer and Canoles, Mastracco, Martone, Barr and Russell. The Kaufman firm was established by Charles L. Kaufman in 1919; the Canoles firm by Leroy T. Canoles in 1951. Kaufman & Canoles commitment to finding innovative and cost-effective solutions for clients and deeply rooted connections within community, civic and political circles will play a key role in furthering the TerraLex mission.

TerraLex offers access to rigorously vetted law firms in strategic locations. Its mission is to help member firms serve clients' legal needs and business interests through a worldwide network of quality law firms that meets high professional standards. As a voluntary association of independent law firms, each TerraLex member retains the right to work with any law firm or client. Member firms operate as separate enterprises, responsible for their own staff and work products. For more information, visit www.terralex.org.
