Overview
Journey Matos is an Associate in the Norfolk office and a member of the ESOP, Benefits & Compensation practice group, where she brings a background in employee benefits, ESOPs, and executive compensation. With experience spanning benefits analyses for M&A transactions as well as client advisory roles, Journey is known for her practical and client-focused approach to complex benefits issues.
Journey's practice includes analyzing health and welfare plans, reviewing ESOP and executive compensation arrangements, and performing protected benefits analyses to ensure compliance with federal law. She researches defined benefit and defined contribution plan compliance issues under ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code, prepares client-facing summaries and analyses, and drafts plan documents for both health and welfare plans and retirement plans, as well as ancillary documents including WRAP Plans, Summary Plan Descriptions, and Basic Plan Descriptions.
Journey earned her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where she was a Diversity Fellowship Recipient and served as Editor in Chief of the Pittsburgh Tax Review. She received her B.A. in Political Science from Pennsylvania State University, where she also minored in French and Francophone Studies.
