Overview

With over 40 years of successful jury trial experience in Intellectual Property and Commercial cases within the Eastern District of Virginia, Stephen Noona is a well-respected federal court trial lawyer who has appeared over 125 patent cases. He is highly valued for navigating the procedural complexities of the Eastern District of Virginia’s “rocket docket” and his trial experience and professionalism have garnered him a Fellowship in the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers.

As head of the Litigation Section and the Intellectual Property Law Litigation Practice Group, Stephen has spent almost 40 years trying complex IP and commercial cases in federal and state courts. Known for his hard work, Stephen has a long and successful record as a trial lawyer who focuses his trial practice on intellectual property law cases in the Federal Courts across the nation. As a former President of the Virginia State Bar’s Intellectual Property Law Section and the local Federal Bar Association, he is particularly well known for his knowledge and ability to navigate the complexities of the Eastern District’s “rocket docket” and has appeared in over 125 patent cases in all four of the District’s Divisions along with many associated jury trials. In his trial practice, Stephen routinely serves as counsel and co-counsel to major Fortune 500, international, and regional companies, covering a diverse variety of industries ranging from software to pharmaceuticals. He has appeared regularly in all divisions of the Eastern District of Virginia and in other district courts across the nation. He is known for his client-centered and constructive attitude and uniformly respected for his professionalism by both the bench and the bar. Coupled with his commitment to his clients, Stephen has devoted significant time to serve as an officer in several statewide bar positions to give back to the profession and his peers.

Outside of the law, Stephen is known as an accomplished Saltwater Fly Fisherman and Fly Tyer who has traveled the world extensively pursuing gamefish on the fly. He is also an avid UVA Sports fan as a former D-1 athlete at the University of Virginia.
