    Trust & Estate Administrator

    The Kaufman & Canoles Williamsburg office is seeking a qualified Trust & Estate Administrator to oversee complex trust and estate administration and prepare related tax returns.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage trust and estate probate administration, drafting correspondence and legal documents, prepare deeds, asset spreadsheets, probate pleadings, and review of bank statements, accountings and/or financial statements.
    • Interact with various banks and brokerage firms via telephone, email, and in-person.
    • Prepare complex estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns.

    Real Estate Paralegal

    The Norfolk Office of Kaufman & Canoles is seeking a Real Estate Paralegal to conduct real estate closings for corporate and commercial real estate transactions. Prepares necessary legal documents that may include disclosure schedules, settlement statements, deeds, loan closing documents, corporate authorization documents. Maintains detailed and accurate daily billable hour records. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to exercise a high degree of confidentiality and discretion are required.  

    Responsibilities:

    • Assists with all aspects of complex commercial real estate, corporate and lender transactions, including creating checklists, disbursement statements, closing documents, and reviewing loan documents.
    • Analyzes title commitments, title documents, real property legal descriptions, and surveys.
    • Responsible for corresponding with lenders, builders, real estate agents, title companies, and attorneys as needed to gather necessary information for closings. 
    • Prepares and maintains closing checklists and timelines.
    • Addresses post-closing matters and oversees preparation of closing binders.
    • Ensures closing packages have been properly disbursed and appropriate documents recorded. 
    • Verifies title insurance policies have been received.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist attorneys with deal closings, including M&A, real estate, and public and private securities offerings.

    The Richmond office of Kaufman & Canoles is seeking an Administrative Clerk. Under general supervision provides general office support with a variety of administrative and related tasks.     Responsibilities:

    • Process, review, file invoices, reimbursements and check requests for accuracy, ensuring timely payment and resolve any discrepancies.
    • Process, review and cut advance check requests.

    Responsibilities:

    • Drafting and preparing pleadings (complaint, answers, motions and discovery) and other legal documents
    • Researching into party identity and location and asset searches
    • Organizing and managing case file and organizing files electronically
    • Creating trial notebooks
    • Drafting deposition summaries
    • Organizing and reviewing discovery documents for responsiveness and privilege
